Created during the Tsonami festival in 2019 in Valparaiso (where I was invited by Éric Mattson), Strikes was inspired by the sonic use of pans in the Chilean social movement, which was then in full swing.

The recordings were made one encounter after the other in Valparaíso: each person was invited to strike, at their own pace and with their own energy, an object chosen for its acoustic or symbolic qualities. The piece explores the polyphony born from the superposition of these pulsations and the multiplicity of fortuitous rhythms that emerge from them. Strikes is a protest trance, which also served as a moment of collective catharsis during its first performance in the festival.

Published online by ORAL Records, all proceeds from the downloads were donated to the Valparaiso community strike funds, to support the actions, territorial, and political struggles of the social and student movement.

A text, published afterward by Tsonami, extended the reflection and vibration of this moment of collective struggle: Strikes (the tremor shaking my legs).
