Microphone

Microphone #1 (Assembly) is the first part of a tetralogy that will work its way back the chain of production of a central and symbolic object for electroacoustic music: the microphone. Before listening from north to south, from usage to extraction, from the manufacturing of circuit-boards to the production of semi-conductors and down the copper mine, auscultation starts here, at the end of the process: in a Danish assembly workshop.

Field recordings, in that industrial and social context, both constrains the listening and becomes the pretext for a musical research that is also a mise-en-abîme: the microphone exploring the musical resonances of the machines that are manufacturing it.

Sound matter was recorded at DPA Microphones in Ansæs, Danemark, in 2023. Music was composed at GRM in 2025. The piece was created at Festival Akousma, organised by GRM at Radio France on June 1st 2025.
